2019 goals & resolutions

Making resolutions seem to have a negative connotation lately. People view them as unattainable goals we set ourselves that we never meet, so why bother? However, for me, the new year always brings a fresh perspective and a chance to reset. There really isn’t a huge difference between 12/31 and 1/1 but it’s a welcome opportunity to reframe our thinking which leaves me with an air of optimism.

In the past, I’ve made resolutions to get me to be the version of myself I wish I was. More fit, better at saving money etc. however this year I’m approaching resolutions a bit differently. I’m setting small, attainable goals that will help my overall wellness, mental health, and happiness! So here they are:

  1. Meditate once a week – I’ve been using the Calm app for a few months now and I love it. I still get fidgety at times during meditations but I always feel better after I carve out the time for it. Making it habitual will help me de-stress and re-center more regularly.
  2. Read 50 books in 2019 – I’m a lover of books, so why not challenge myself to read a bit more? I’m currently averaging between 20-30 books a year. If I cut back on Netflix just a little bit this should be attainable – and I’ll have fun doing it!
  3. Get outside more – A girlfriend gave me this idea as it was one of her resolutions and I thought it was great. Whether that be taking more walks, riding bikes, hiking, spending time by the water, or reading outside on our townhome back patio, I always feel my best after spending time outside.
  4. Be more present and put my phone away more – This one is hard but hoping even small changes will help like putting my phone away during meal times.
  5. Continue exploring and traveling – Because of course 😊

In addition to resolutions, here are some fun things ahead for us in 2019:

  1. Going skiing this weekend – my first time since I was a kid.
  2. We’re attending the PGA golf tournament in Bethpage this May.
  3. Going to Chicago and Milwaukee this summer – both new cities and states for me.
  4. Looking to book a trip to Iceland – I’ll take you through the planning process.
  5. Celebrating our second year of marriage.
  6. Trip planning – Where else should we travel? Thinking we need to add somewhere warm in here but we can’t decide.

Next week I’ll begin recapping our Europe trip and I can’t wait! Although the trip was in March of 2018, this blog was only a figment of my imagination at that time so I’m really excited to relive it all through Chasing Sunshine.

  1. I think setting small, attainable goals is a great idea. I’m trying to save more this year, and I’ve taken small steps this month to achieve it. Looks like you’ve planned some exciting things ahead. Looking forward to reading more of your adventures!
