One of my favorite holidays is here! Thanksgiving always gives me feelings of warmth, comfort, and simplicity. I love wearing my stretchy Lululemon yoga pants and playing board games, visiting with family and of course – eating delicious food.

Then, before your Thanksgiving meal has even had time to be digested, it seems such a stark contrast that people rush to the malls to snag Black Friday sales. It has long been a tradition for Phil and I to scope out the Black Friday craziness in stores, even though we are often going without the intent to buy. The energy is always palpable and chaotic and lends itself to prime people watching.

It really is in an instant that the season has shifted to gifts, baking and to-do lists that seem a mile long. It can be challenging trying to tackle it all but it’s also, as they say, the most wonderful time of the year! So with the holiday sales shouting from the rooftops desperate for you to capitalize on and bloggers touting gift guides left and right, I thought I’d slow things down a bit and provide some ideas of things to do this week that will help rejuvenate your soul and appreciate the moment right in front of you.

  1. Go for a walk! Even if the weather is frigid, bundle up and let that crisp fresh air sting your cheeks. Going for walks with Phil and our pooch (as we call her) are always some of my favorite moments. We put the phones away and just simply chat or observe things around us like the quickly moving clouds or changing leaves on the trees.
  2. Send a hand written note! Sending hand written notes has something that will always be meaningful to me. Sending cards doesn’t mean they have to be sent in troves with the generic “Merry Christmas” message. There are beautiful paper goods to choose from that will make it as sweet of an experience for you picking out and writing in as it will be for the recipient. I get most of my paper goods from Rifle Paper Co but there are cute options from Etsy and Papyrus too. This will be a nice way too to break through all of the holiday clutter and really let someone know you’re thinking of them.

3. Give back! There are ample opportunities to give back to those less fortunate during the holiday time. Even better, find something that’s important to you and try and make a commitment to either give monetarily regularly or volunteer for throughout all of 2020.
