summer reading list

Lately it seems that the world is changing daily but one thing is certain – I absolutely can’t wait until we visit New England in July! It is almost hard to believe that we’ve spent most of 2020 right in our home. I actually love our townhome which has a nice outdoor space where I tend to my potted plants and have made cozy complete with flowers, candles and string lights. But, with sometimes noisy neighbors, construction in our neighborhood and our dog that likes to bark at every bird and squirrel that passes by it can be hard to find peace and quiet. Being able to disconnect from daily stressors is exactly why getting away and going on trips is such an integral part of my mental health!

Although this trip is going to look a little different than typical trips I actually think slowing things down and truly relaxing is exactly what I’m in need of right now. With COVID changing the way we travel I’ll be doing a separate post on traveling safely during a pandemic but for now I wanted to share one of my most important travel essentials – books! With this trip where we plan on spending long, lazy days at our little cottage we’re renting on the water one of the most crucial decisions for this trip is what books I’ll be bringing along with me. As I’m trying to disconnect from the scary stressful world right now, I mainly wanted to focus on books that were light, fun reads. I had recently started reading a book that I thought would be just that and then it turned into a book about suicide and a wrongfully convicted person going to prison which was just too heavy for my heart right now.

After carefully vetting, here are my picks for summer beach reads:

  1. The Royal We by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan
  2. Party of Two by Jasmine Guillory
  3. Big Summer by Jennifer Weiner
  4. Been There, Married That by Gigi Levangie
  5. The Heir Affair (sequel to The Royal We) by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan
  6. All Adults Here by Emma Straub
  7. The Giver of Stars by Jojo Moyes
  8. Head Over Heels by Hannah Orenstein
  9. The Last Flight by Julie Clark
  10. The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett

I’ve also read some really amazing books this year! Here are my favorites:

  1. Beach Read by Emily Henry
  2. Happy and You Know It by Laura Hankin
  3. Opposite of Always by Justin A. Reynolds
  4. The Story Hour by Thrity Umrigar
  5. Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid
  6. The Guest List by Lucy Foley
  7. The Lies that Bind by Emily Griffin
  8. The Water Dancer by Ta-Nehisi Coates
  9. Recursion by Blake Crouch
  10. Normal People by Sally Rooney
  11. Know My Name by Chanel Miller
  12. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins
